Goal IV:
Theory & Praxis

Students have a critical grounding in theoretical perspectives that draw on research in LIS as well as other fields of knowledge, that inform their professional practices including research, organization, management, and access to information.

IV.a. Students will describe applications of quantitative and qualitative research methodologies in library and information science.

LIS6271 - Research Methods Qualtrics survey on E-books vs. physical textbooks preferences among students

I was able to use my background in market research and understanding of research survey software to create our survey instrument using the USF Qualtrics package and send a live survey link to our instructor. Here is a link to the survey itself. Working with a team on this project helped me to better understand how to divide up responsibilities and how to maximize our own individual output together.

IV.b. Students will identify opportunities for research and develop plans for research in applied settings in library and information science.

LIS6271 - Research Methods Group Project - The COVID-19 pandemic inspired our research subject of student preferences and academic outcomes using E-books versus physical textbooks in a university setting. This project was created as a culmination of a semester-long group research project and incorporated our needs assessment, literature review, survey design, Qualtrics survey instrument, budget, and analysis plan.

I love seeing how joyful designing with books can be, such as this parking garage for the KC Public Library!
