Goal III:
Knowledge Representation

Students are proficient in the theory and application of skills essential for knowledge representation in evolving technology environments, in any chosen area of specialization.

III.a. Students analyze, organize and describe various formats of information objects.

LIS6946 Internship with John C. Pace Library at UWF Islandora Metadata Cleanup and Database project and companion deliverable - when UWF's theses and dissertations were moved to a new server, the records were corrupted. I edited the datastreams of over 800 records and refiled them, saving them all in a database I created for the library staff to reference going forward. This project was my first foray into creating something for active use in a real library and it was gratifying to say the least. As I made my daily corrections and additions to the database, library staff at John C. Pace Library at UWF were using the document in real-time.

III.b. Students identify and apply best practices in the use of different technologies for knowledge representation.

LIS6603 LIBGUIDE Project: About Bees - https://usflis.libguides.com/AboutBees

I loved working on this project! I visualized my prospective patrons as high school-level students doing a project on bees as pollinators, the effects of industrialization on the health of bee populations, and colony collapse disorder. For these patrons, I went about collecting relevant, recent information on the subject of bees and designing an attractive and enticing "package" for it in the form of this LibGuide. This project taught me to focus on my library patron's knowledge needs and use technology to deliver them in a useful and easy-to-access format.
